East Patch Racing has now completed 30 years of successful competition. Keelboat racing takes place just off Helensburgh on the East of the Clyde Estuary approximately 2.2nm (20 minutes) from JWD Marina. This area of water provides a variety of courses for all conditions, wind strengths and directions. There are several permanent marks including two large navigation towers plus several seasonally laid marks which the East Patch Committee (RNCYC & HSC) maintain.

Throughout the season from April to October there are 5 series, initially on Sunday afternoons then as the evenings grow longer into Wednesday evenings and then back to Sunday afternoons in the Autumn. Class Splits for racing are as follows:



General Handicap: 

Any CYCA/IRC Handicap

Class I: 

Up to and including CYCA 16.00 and IRC

Class 2: 

Sonar and CYCA 16.25 and over

With regular racing through the spring, summer and autumn there are always yachts looking for crew. Yachts usually leave JWD Marina around 13:00 (Spring), 18:30 (Summer) and 12:00 (Autumn) to head out to the race course. If you are looking to crew on a yacht based at JWD Marina you can always turn up and ask one of the race boat crews or alternatively call Craig Latimer at the marina on 01475 729 838 or complete the contact form and we will try and find you a boat.
